3dprojector

Realtime-3DProjector
Realtime - 3DProjector is a project to create a mobile projector-camera system that can reconstruct 3d model of an object in real-time by using a structure light pattern.

ipProjector

ipProjector
ipProjector stands for “Interactive Portable Projector”. In this project, we develop an interactive projector system that is self-contained, portable and able to provide real time HCI smartly even in an unknown environment.

RoboTable

RoboTable
RoboTable is a mashup project of physical robots, fiducial and multi-touch tracking on a table. This project is to develop an interactive system in which human can interact with both virtual objects displayed on tabletop surface and real objects such as robots.

GENTORO

GENTORO
GENTORO is a system for supporting children's storytelling using robots and handheld projectors. A mobile mixed-reality environment created by GENTORO enhances the level of children's motivation, engagement, and embodied participation in their storytelling activity and nurtures their creativity and imagination.

usonic_imaging

In-air Acoustic Imaging Technique
Acoustic imaging techniques are currently used in such fields as medical diagnosis, underwater exploration and nondestructive testing (NDT). However, in-air acoustic imaging is also an interesting modality of imaging, and therefore we conduct research into its fundamental techniques as well as applications.

usonic

A Relative Positioning Technique by Using Ultrasonic Communication
We have been developing an innovative relative positioning technique by using ultrasonic sensors, in order to accurately and rapidly identify distances and orientations among multiple people and electronic devices in an indoor environment.

CoGAME

CoGAME
In the CoGAME project, we have been developing a system that allows users to manipulate robots using mobile projectors. Through this project, we investigate novel and intuitive interaction techniques using a mobile device that embeds a camera and a projector.

Shepherd

Shepherd: A Mobile Interface for Multi-robot Controls from a User's Viewpoint
We propose a remote control technique for multi-robots that allows a user to control them from his viewpoint. By capturing an image of robots with a camera mounted on a mobile phone and moving it in a three dimensional space, a user can intuitively control the robots as he would intend.

SketchMap

SketchMap
SketchMap is a system that integrates face-to-face and distributed collaboration of primary school children. We use small-scale tablet PCs for the distributed field work and an additional normal PC with data projector for the face-to-face situation. Children use SketchMap for creating their "personal environment"map of an area around their school - a task habitually tackled when being introduced for the first time to the basic concepts of cartography. While SketchMap so far focuses on the mentioned task, the system itself will in the future be extended and adapted to other related scenarios such as instruction in traffic behavior or, important!, civil protection and children security measures.

CarettaKids

CarettaKids
CarettaKids is the extented version of Caretta. CarettaKids is used for enhancing school children's collaborative learning about urban planning and environmental issues in face-to-face settings. In CarettaKids, a group of children sits around a multiple input device (a sensing board) and manipulates physical pieces in an immersive environment. Each of the children is also provided with a PDA for her own personal space. Children in CarettaKids can conduct design tasks collaboratively in the shared space and individually in their own personal spaces. In order for children to seamlessly work on both spaces, CarettaKids allows the children to transition between two spaces in an intuitive manner.

Rhythm

T-RHYTHM: A System for Supporting Music Learning Using Tactile Feedback
A system called T-RHYTHM that supports individual learners playing or singing in an ensemble is proposed. A learner using T-RHYTHM is not confused by other learners' performances, because he/she is given his/her own rhythm through tactile feedback. A rhythm of each learner is extracted based on a performance by an accompanist and transmitted to his/her tactile device via a wireless communication.

Hotaru

Hotaru: Intuitive Manipulation Techniques for Projected Displays of Mobile Devices
We have developed near future technologies in this project: a mobile device with a projector and intuitive manipulation techniques by using a video camera mounted on the device. The proposed system called Hotaru (a firefly, in English) allows users to annotate, rotate or transfer files between multiple devices by touching their projected displays with fingers.

Blimp

Cooperative Localization for Multiple Flying Robots
We propose a novel cooperative localization algorithm for indoor flying robots. Due to the limited payload of a flying robot, it is difficult to use multiple sensors for estimating its accurate location. Therefore, estimating the location by using a sensor mountable on a flying robot is error prone. Our approach solves this problem by using multiple flying robots.

Caretta

Caretta: A System for Supporting Face-to-Face Collaboration by Integrating Personal and Shared workspaces
We have developed a system called Caretta that integrates personal and shared spaces to support face-to-face collaboration. We use PDAs and a multiple-input sensing board for personal and shared spaces, respectively. Users of Caretta can discuss and negotiate with each other in the shared space by manipulating physical objects, while they individually examine their ideas in their own personal spaces. Caretta allows users to participate in group activities interchangeably and seamlessly using both these spaces. Caretta is applicable to various collaborative tasks. In this paper, it supports users in urban planning tasks. User studies of Caretta demonstrated that it allowed users to collaborate in a flexible fashion: users could work individually in their personal spaces at their own pace, cooperatively work together in the shared space, and smoothly transition between both of the spaces.

Toss-It

Toss-It
Toss-It provides intuitive information transfer techniques for mobile devices, by fully utilizing their mobility. With Toss-It, a user can send information from the user's PDA to other electronic devices with a "toss" or "swing" action, as the user would toss a ball or deals cards to others.

Blimp2

A Flying Robot That Interact with Humans
Many kinds of robots are expected to play active roles in our future society. To this end, it is important for the robots to interact with us efficently. We have been developing fundamental technologies and theoretical frameworks for efficient interactions between humans and flying robots.

Blimp2

An Efficient Manipulation Method for Mobile Devices by Using Their Front and Back Sides
In the proposed system, a touchpad is attached to a backside a mobile device. The combination of frontside and backside input allows users to conduct several manipulations (zooming, scrolling,,,) easily and efficiently.

Blimp2

A cooperative navigation technique for multiple flying robots
We have been investigating an automatic navigation technique for multiple indoor flying robots. By integrating the position information of multiple robots gained through a sensor mounted on each of them, the robots can cooperatively fly a designated route in a room.

TimeWarp

TimeWarp
TimeWarp is an automatic video summarization system that adapts to users' preferences by analyzing their personal photo libraries. The system performs summarization in a way that "important" segments are emphasized, which are picked out using image classification techniques.

CityVoyager

CityVoyager
CityVoyager is a shop recommendation system for city dwellers, designed to run on mobile devices. The system automatically estimates users' preferences and needs from the history of their past location data acquired using GPS, and presents a tailored list of recommended shops.
